Now that the LOVE YOUR (NYC) BLOCK Contest is over (results to come soon!), we are about to embark on our next project that will carry us through the rest of the summer: The Bushwick Library Project!
The Bushwick branch of the Brooklyn Public Library is located on Bushwick Avenue @ Seigel Street, and has a big open space in the back that we have been granted permission to plant! The patrons of the library will be able to enjoy the garden during library hours and hopefully the young readers will pitch in to help us turn the library into a green oasis where people can read their books and learn about growing veggies.
TNT has teamed up with ioby.org to raise funds for the project. We’ve already raised $285, but we have a long way to go to reach our goal of $1,150. Hey gang busters
Well, new york is officially going to be under water if the forecast for the next few days is right…more rain?! Good for the garden but not so good for the gardener! Never mind - we are going to try and brave it this Sunday and do some much needed gardening and weeding on Jefferson Street. Our little garden has suffered some major neglect of late (babies tend to take precedence over weeding…!) but with your help we can restore it to its former glory!
Help us out this Sunday, June 28th at 1pm on Jefferson Street, between Wyckoff & Irving - bring gardening gloves if you have them, and tools to whack weeds! There are some beautiful wildflowers growing amidst the mugwort, so let’s give them a chance to shine, people!

Make a note to spend your weekend in Bushwick, as we’ve got lots of fun activities planned and it’s Bushwick Open Studios, too! TNT will be out on Bogart Street on SUNDAY, June 7th from 1-4pm building the last of the tree benches, as well as in the community garden on Bogart @ McKibbin pruning, weeding and planting tomatoes! the weather is supposed to be phenomenal, so come on out with your gardening gloves, give something back to the neighborhood and support your local artistes too! Should be a wicked fun weekend!

Happy early Memorial Day! If you are in town this weekend, please join us for some fun + action this Sunday, May 24th. We’ll be building benches and tree guards and enjoying the garden this Sunday at 1-4pm on Bogart Street. We’ll bring the lemonade and maybe even fire up the BBQ! We don’t have much time left to get our block in tip top shape, so please pitch in and help out in the Love Your Block contest efforts!

Just a reminder that tomorrow, Sunday, May 17th from 12-7pm Trees Not Trash will be at The Warsaw (261 Driggs Avenue) in Williamsburg for the BUST Craftacular! We will be giving a guerilla gardening demonstration (seed bombs! making planters out of kitchen junk!) and selling our shirts & bags. Come on by and support TNT and check out all the crafty goodness going on!

An exciting event is coming up for Trees Not Trash, so mark it in your calendars! We are participating in the 2009 Spring Fling BUST Craftacular at the Warsaw on Sunday, May 17th! Come learn a thing or two about guerilla gardening, make a seed bomb, and check out the event! If you’ve never been to a BUST Craftacular before, you’re in for a treat!
