Build a tree guard bench this Sunday!

Hello All!

We are happy to report that we had a very productive orientation meeting with the other grantees from the LOVE YOUR (NYC) BLOCK Contest on Wednesday. Representatives from the Department of Sanitation, Transportation, The Parks Department and the Mayor’s Office attended and we made great connections with them! This is very exciting as it will enable us to get on the inside track for big important issues to TNT, such as litter, traffic congestion + speeding, and getting more trees in the ground! We have so far requested “traffic calming” measures such as speed humps on Bogart Street as well as additonal litter baskets (seeing as we have only one ….) and trees, more trees! All these things will help us in making Bogart Street the cleanest, greenest block in NYC!

So with that in mind, please meet us this SUNDAY, MARCH 22nd at 12 noon (we’re going to start a bit earlier than usual!) on Bogart Street outside the Archive Cafe (49 Bogart Street). Take the L train to Morgan Avenue. We are going to finish our wooden window boxes and get cracking on the first of the Tree Guard Benches!

Bring along paintbrushes, gloves, tools, soil, wood, and stencils if you have them! otherwise just show up and help out!

See you Sunday!

Trees Not Trash awarded grant for LOVE YOUR (NYC) BLOCK Contest!

Great news everyone!

Trees Not Trash was just awarded a grant to particpate in the LOVE YOUR (NYC) BLOCK Contest, courtesy of Citizens Committee for NYC and Mayor Bloomberg! Twelve groups from across the five boroughs were selected as finalists, and each finalist will received a grant to beautify their block.  The group that demonstrates the most impressive transformation will win an additional grant to be used towards future block improvements. We have chosen Bogart Street between McKibbin and Moore as our NYC block to love!

We have already started work on making Bogart Street beautiful so if you would like to get involved, please email us! Go Trees Not Trash!
