jane jacobs garden car project

please meet SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13TH @ 1pm at the community garden on bogart @ mckibbin for GARDEN CAR MEETING! (if the weather is rainy we will meet in the ARCHIVE CAFE @ 49 bogart instead)

Trees Not Trash is teaming up with Streets are for People! in Toronto, a fantastic group who use humour and art to get the message out to fellow urbanites that another city is possible (see www.streetsareforpeople.org). Streets are for People! will be coming to NYC to present at the Walk 21 conference and are working together with Trees not Trash to build a Jane Jacobs commemorative garden car – a dead car turned into a planter (please see attachments).

this is an exciting endeavor that will require many allies and lots of hands on deck to bring to fruition in short time.  Do you or others you know want to collaborate on this project?  Community involvement and know-how is crucial in making this tribute to Jane Jacobs be the most that it could be. Come Sunday and get involved!

hey gardeners

TNT will be in the community garden on Bogart @ McKibbin today, August 23rd @ 1pm- the little garden on the other side of the subway entrance is getting outta hand. want to learn how to prune a tree? we’ll show you how!

Also, we are gearing up for a very exciting collaborative project with Streets Are for People from Toronto (www.streetsareforpeople.org) for the Walk21 conference in NYC on OCtober 6,7,8 : Walk21.com. TNT and SAFP are going to make and deliver to the NYU campus a “garden car” made in the spirit of Jane Jacobs. It’s a big project with lots of opportunities to help (ie. do you know of an old car we can have? know a garage that wants to donate one? got any contacts with the Mayor’s office or the DOT that might help us secure a permanent space for the car?) We’re all ears and we don’t have a lot of time to pull this escapade off so get in touch with your ideas and get-up-and-g0-ness now!

more to come!
